Whether it is your first or fiftieth time attending a football game at U.S. Bank Stadium, we have five must-know tips that will improve your game day experience. Knowing what you can bring into the stadium, the bag policy, where to park, what to eat, and the best exit out of the city, we have you covered.
Hottest money-saving tip: bring your empty water bottle and use a refill station inside the stadium to stay hydrated without the expense.
1) Pick Your Arrival Strategy Early (Parking vs. Light Rail)
Driving can be convenient, but post-game exits are slow. Try to park near a highway, like the lots just off Washington by 35W, for an easy city exit. If you choose a parking ramp near U.S. Bank Stadium, book a ramp spot ahead of time and arrive 90 minutes before kickoff. Prefer to skip traffic? The light rail (Blue or Green Line) drops you steps from the action, with places like the Mall of America being a free spot you can park and be delivered just steps from the stadium. This can also be congested post-game, as always, bring your patience. Check schedules and fares at Metro Transit.

2) Arrive Early, Explore & Eat Before the Game Begins
U.S. Bank Stadium has much to see! Arriving when the gates open usually means less waiting to get inside and gives you ample time to explore the beautiful stadium. Something fun to look for is the wall of Minnesota High School Football helmets, and on the floor, you will find the original location of Home Plate for the Metrodome.
There are many great local eats inside U.S. Bank Stadium as well, and you can download the Vikings app to help you navigate to your favorite.
The Minnesota Vikings put on one of the greatest pre-game shows in the league, so you will want to be in your seats at least 20 minutes before kickoff to catch all the action.
Prices inside the stadium aren’t cheap, so if you are on a budget, plan to eat before you arrive.

3) Dress for the Weather
U.S. Bank Stadium will keep you warm once inside, but Minneapolis sidewalks can be frigid. For winter games, use a simple system: a warm base layer, an insulating mid-layer, a windproof jacket, a hat, gloves, and traction-friendly shoes or boots. Hand warmers and foot warmers are great for the walk and tailgate time. Keep extras in a clear bag (see policy below).
Early in the NFL season, please keep in mind that sunny games can make any seats directly in the sun under the glass warm and bright. Don’t forget sunglasses and a handheld fan.
Hot tip: bring a clean, empty garbage bag to put your coat and layers in so they are protected from beer and nacho cheese spills when you put them under your seat.
4) Know the Policies So Security Is a Breeze
Check the clear bag policy at U.S. Bank Stadium and the prohibited items list for the week of your game; policies are updated occasionally. If you find yourself with a bag that is not allowed, do not fret; they have a bag check located outside the stadium, but plan for the line.
Download your tickets to your mobile phone’s wallet to save time at the gate. The venue is cashless; bring a card or mobile wallet.
5) Be the Fan Everyone Likes to Sit Next To
Friendly, respectful cheering makes the day better for home and away fans. Remember, if you like to visit other stadiums, treat fans the way you would want to be treated.
If you’re visiting with kids, identify restrooms and quiet spots on your concourse level. For post-game, give yourself a 15-minute buffer before heading out; crowds thin quickly, and your ride-share pickup or light rail commute will be easier.

There are many rules you must follow to be allowed entry into U.S. Bank Stadium. The most important is the NFL’s clear bag policy. You can bring a clear bag up to size 12″x6″x12″ and a non-transparent clutch no larger than 4.5″x6.5″ (approximately the size of an average hand).
